Speaker 1:

Hi, welcome again to my SHINE system. To help us all SHINE when speaking. Last week we used the S of SHINE for setup to improve our speaking, our confidence and optimism by being grateful first thing each morning for all the good things and opportunities we have. We mentioned. You are taking a moment daily in fact schedule a time daily before the rush sits in, to write down at least five of those things for which you are grateful in general and five things for which you are grateful about yourself, including anything related to speaking. This week we continue with the second part of the S for setup. We mentioned finding your own special place where you can practice reading and speaking aloud, privately, a place where you feel welcome, happy and at peace, a place which is yours, a place where you belong. Carefully choose some way you can speak and read aloud, with art, embarrassment.

Speaker 1:

Choose a book with a good descriptions and grammar, something you can really enjoy to read daily. Read it with expression, get the story come alive. Use your voice, vary its tone, pitch, speed, emotion and notice the difference, especially how subtle pauses and voice changes can alter mood and meaning. For instance, this beautiful passage from Charles Dickens book A Tale of Two Cities could be read without expression. They all reverently bowed their heads and hearts. He was happy in the return he had made her. He was recompensed for his suffering. He was proud of his strength. You must not be weak, my darling. He remonstrated Don't tremble. So I have saved him. Or you could read it with expression. Listen to the difference.

Speaker 1:

The story is a story of two cities. One is the one of two cities, the other is the one of two cities. The other is the one of two cities. The other is the one of two cities, the other is the one of two cities. You must not be weak, my darling. He remonstrated Don't tremble. So I have saved him.

Speaker 1:

By effectively using your voice, you will become a more interesting, inspiring speaker. Read aloud to practice this, trying different ways so that, when speaking publicly, you will already know how you sound and how best to educate or motivate your audience. Reading aloud encourages us to imagine the scenes we are reading about. Long term, this helps us to think quickly and creatively and respond eloquently when put on the spot during an interview, group or board meeting. This is in stark contrast to the decrease in creativity and brain shrinkage resulting from excessive time spent watching TV movies or reels, as our brains get lazy when we see and hear every detail, when they are not encouraged to form mental pictures or imagine what is happening from the words alone.

Speaker 1:

Daily reading fascinating, absorbing, well-written literature will enrich your lives. It will help you with public speaking, increase your vocabulary and improve your grammar. It will help you become a capable, effective communicator who inspires respect and confidence in your listeners and colleagues alike. Your command of the English language will help you and your opinions to be taken seriously in meaningful discussions. An acquaintance of mine regularly turns hard-headed enemies into long-term loyal supporters by his carefully chosen words and excellent speaking skills. The way he wins arguments ensures that no one challenges him twice and instead becomes open to his leadership, respecting and appreciating him at the same time.

Speaker 1:

It is good for your own health mentally, physically and socially when others take what you say seriously. You achieve this by carefully chosen words and excellent speaking skills, helped by reading good books. In summary, daily journaling and reading, as discussed, helps you become more confident, competent and self-assured and able to embrace opportunities. You should also become more able to reframe existing problems as opportunities. When you speak better in a group or in front of others, they usually respect you and your ideas more. This further improves your confidence and leads to more meaningful relationships, which in turn again improves your confidence in speaking to and in front of others. Additionally, having scheduled special time in a beautiful, calm place where you are happy and secure helps you relax and de-stress. Done daily, this decreases risk of chronic anxiety or depression. Do these simple steps Done regularly, they can help you excel in many areas of your life as well as shunning.
