Hi, welcome to today's episode of podcast, sharn Speaking. Today, we learn about the second part of the I in Sharn, which stands for Inspire Action. In this episode, we focus on your final statement, the grand finale to your carefully prepared speech. This is what your audience is left with. They go away with this statement ringing in their ears and this is what they will remember. In this podcast, you will learn to use your voice, words, presence so that this final statement will inspire action and motivate the response you need.
Speaker 1:So far, we are preparing so that we see opportunities rather than problems, reframe problems we cannot avoid as opportunities so that we can use them to the full. We have also embarked on a daily habit that improves our creativity, grammar and vocabulary, enabling us to answer impromptu questions quickly and fluently. This helps us in meetings and interviews. The increased creativity also helps us enjoy our works and lives more. Additionally, the refreshing break time spent doing this extra activity enables our minds to recover from the day's waste, preventing anxiety and depression. This was all in the Sharn, the S of the Sharn system. S for setup, then we maintain practical ways to get respect and be heard. In H for hush to be heard and in I for ignite interest. We discuss compelling openings to engage our audience's attention.
Speaker 1:Today's podcast is about your very important final statement, the one that will inspire your audience to do what they need to do. This may be to let go of ingrained bias to support your cause Example help save a rare and beautiful bird species from extinction. Or to vote for your new business system. It may be to buy from you, vote for you or hire you. Your final statement can clear up confusion, get your audience thinking and inspire them to greater heights. Remember the podcast on Hush to be heard. Remember we mentioned that just before you deliver your grand finale, you Hush. This Hush recapitulates your listener's attention. If their minds have been wondering, it re-ignites their lost interest. If they have been getting bored, this pause regains their raptor tension. This, plus an excellent ending, will go a long way towards redeeming your speech if it is failing at this point. If, instead, they are still looking at you with raptor tension, as they should, assuming you are delivering an excellent, compelling speech, then this pause, this momentary Hush, just serves to let them know that something extra special is about to be said, now that you have their fixed attention, now that they are waiting, now that they are expecting something important. Make sure that you do deliver a super, extra special grand finale. Deliver something worthy of that rapt attention.
Speaker 1:You can summarize key points, echo your call message or present a call to action. Just ensure a call to action is clear, concise, doable, some end with a powerful quote, challenge their listeners or make them laugh so your audience knows when your speech is really over you may have necessary say thank you. That is enough. Examples of endings that inspire action are those that summarize In a sentence the point you have been making and then pause before stating the action, such as now that you know what this computer system can do, let's install it and watch your profits grow. Or you can answer the question you asked at the beginning, firmly, decisively. For instance. So to answer my beginning question of do we support terrorism, I firmly and unequivocally say you may, but no, I do not. Or, depending on the circumstances, yes, I do.
Speaker 1:Your ending, of course, relates to your speech's arguments For impact. Use short sentences, repetition and say it clearly. Example Julius Caesar. With I came, I saw I conquered. Examples of famous speech endings include that of Patrick Henry in 1775 when compiling for independence but as for me, give me liberty or give me death, and that of Winston Churchill in 1940. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duty and so bear ourselves that if the British Commonwealth and Empire lasts for thousands of years, men will say this was their finest hour. Deliver something worthy of your audience's attention. Plan it, make it meaningful, practice it. Say it calmly, clearly, confidently. As your powerful message reaches them and as they take it in, they stand up, breaking into spontaneous applause. For you, the speaker, there is no experience quite like this. Thank you for listening.
